This small town has a population of almost 1000 people. It has the distinguished title of being the coldest inhabited place in the world. Reportedly, (who wants to go there and find out) it is so cold in Oymyakon that birds actually will freeze in mid-flight.

You may wonder, if you plan to move there with a family, if schools are ever closed due to inclement weather. Seriously, strange facts are schools don’t close until it is less than -52°C outdoors. Regrettably, there is no shopping mall of Super Wal Marts.

The good news is that there is a general store. In case you are wondering about one more bizarre thing here, the summers are surprisingly hot; sometimes over 100°F (38 °C). Perhaps, if you wanted a cool place to live year round, you’ve now changed your mind about making your new home in Oymyakon, Russia.
